Bluebird Sculpture · No. 1
A rare one-off ceramic bluebird sculpture made by Mary Crawford at Aviemore Pottery Scotland, dating from roughly the 1980s, although the exact date is uncertain.
This bird was individually modelled by Mary from start to finish rather than formed from a mould. Its body, dense hand-built plumage and small facial details were all shaped by hand, with blue and soft green colouring giving the piece its distinctive character.
The family recalls that only around 100 of Mary’s unique animal sculptures were ever made. Relatively few are known to remain, making this a rare surviving example of her sculptural work.
Approx. 8 × 7 cm.
As a surviving vintage handmade piece, there may be small imperfections or firing variations. These are part of the history and individual character of the sculpture.
