Hen Sculpture · No. 1
A rare one-off ceramic hen sculpture made by Mary Crawford at Aviemore Pottery Scotland, dating from roughly the 1980s, although the exact date is uncertain.
Mary made this piece entirely by hand from start to finish. The body was individually modelled, with the plumage built up and layered by hand and the face and comb carefully sculpted. It was not produced from a mould, so the finished piece is wholly individual.
The family recalls that only around 100 of Mary’s unique animal sculptures were ever made. Relatively few are known to remain, and this is one of the surviving examples from the family collection.
Approx. 10 × 9 cm.
As a surviving vintage handmade piece, there may be small imperfections or firing variations. These are part of the history and individual character of the sculpture.
