Hen Sculpture · No. 2
A rare one-off ceramic hen sculpture made by Mary Crawford at Aviemore Pottery Scotland, dating from roughly the 1980s, although the exact date is uncertain.
Mary made this piece entirely by hand from start to finish. Many individual feather elements were modelled and layered around the body, with contrasting brown details to the wings and tail and carefully formed facial features. No mould was used to create the sculpture.
The family recalls that only around 100 of Mary’s unique animal sculptures were ever made. Relatively few are known to remain, making this a rare surviving example of her sculptural work.
Approx. 10 × 9 cm.
As a surviving vintage handmade piece, there may be small imperfections or firing variations. These are part of the history and individual character of the sculpture.
